Bad Week

Since Sunday Kenzie has been waking up a lot at night. I've only gotten 2-4 hours a sleep the last 4 nights. Plus I've had to wake up at 5:30 and go to work....ugggh!! Her nose is running clear and she has been cranky. Everyone says that she must be teething. She didn't really do this much with her first two teeth. Are the 2nd set worse? Tonight she has been cranky and would only drink 2 oz of her bottle. Anyone have this happen? Should I bring her to the doctor? I need some sleep and I need my happy baby back.....

The second set was WAY WAY WORSE. Colby's first 2 just appeared... one day they weren't there and the next they were. The second ones took forever, he slept and ate awful for a few weeks. He got a pretty significant fever for about 36 hours too. He was just off for awhile. We went to the doctors when he spiked the fever and we were just told to use orajel and tylenol. He had a runny nose and a little bit of a rash too.

Good luck! I hope she feels better soon... and it's almost the weekend!

I hear ya! I'm in that same boat with you...and its NO fun! Addie's had the runny nose too but she doesn't have any teeth yet and I'm not sure she's teething. I'm reading a book now called "Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. Very informative and I can't wait to finish the book and put into practice everything he's talking about. My friend has twin boys the same age as Addie and she was up all hours of the night with either one or both of them until she read and followed the book. She's had great success with it and I'm hoping I will too! You might want to check out the book too!

Hoping we BOTH get some sleep soon!!

I'm sorry. It's hard to keep going on interrupted sleep. It could be teething or a minor cold. If there aren't any other symptoms I wouldn't head off to the doctor--I've learned that often you come home with something much worse than you went in with, since there are so many sick children there. I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

It could be her teeth. Kids teethe differently. Bailey always ran fever and had diarrhea. But, she wasn't cranky at all. It just depends on the child. But, with little ones its really hard to know. It could be her ears. I don't think it would hurt to have them checked just to make sure.

I'm thinking teething, she sounds just like Colin did, he even got at 101 fever. Just keep and eye on her and if her fever spikes above 101 or if she is crying and pulling her eye then take her in...good luck, i know how bad you want your normal happy girl back!

Those top teeth bothered Maddy for months! I hate teething. I think it lasts on and off until they're two! What a poor design. I wish they'd all come in and once and be done. It bothers her sleep so much. I hope she feels more like herself soon.

Hey Ashley! I finished reading the "Healthy Habits, Happy Child" book I mentioned earlier and if you're still having sleep issues I would highly recommend the book! For the past 3 nights Addie has been sleeping almost 12 hours, with only one little crying session at the start of the night. HUGE improvments for us!! Hope you've been able to get some sleep! Let me know how its going!

Hey Ashley! This is (briefly) what we did. Put Addie to bed earlier. I mean really early. Like 6:15 early. Jake didn't get to see her for a day or two since he comes home from work later than that. But it was worth it to get 12 hrs of sleep!!

Next we put her in the bed and walked out of the room. We said I wouldn't go back in there until AT LEAST 4 hrs from the last feeding, and that was ONLY for a diaper change and feeding. And we stuck to it. She cried off and on that first night but finally got the picture and slept. And slept. And slept. She slept through 2 feedings and I had to wake her up at 7am!

The next part is napping. Babies this age shouldn't be awake for more than 2 hours at a time during the day. If Addie wakes up at 7 she goes down for a nap at 9 (if not earlier if she needs to). Naps are considered naps only if she's asleep for at least 1 hr. If she wakes up before then, she stays in the crib until that 1 hr mark. Right now she's taking 3 naps a day. Around 9, around 1, and around 4. Then to bed around 6:30. Earlier if she didn't nap well.

I found out that when a baby is well rested she sleeps better and longer. Sleep begets sleep. Its true, just not logical! Addie's sleep issues were nothing more than over-exhaustion. She was too tired to sleep well and woke up every 45 min-2hrs. All. Night. Long.

If you have the time you should check out the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. Totally worth your time and it works. And for us it worked quickly, which was important for us. The biggest thing is consistency. Be firm and allow her to learn to sleep. Even if she protests (and she will), the best thing is to put her in the crib and let her fuss it out a bit. Addie at the most only cried 20 minutes.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!!

I forgot to mention the book says that babies don't wake up because they're hungry or because they're teething. Middle of the night wakings are more like a bad habit because they don't know how to put themselves back to sleep. Just a thought :-)
