Middle of the night wakings are more like a bad habit because they don't know how to put themselves back to sleep. Just a thought :-)Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-56536905839765158242010-09-16T21:19:35.597-05:002010-09-16T21:19:35.597-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-63512295447975180992010-09-16T21:19:01.291-05:002010-09-16T21:19:01.291-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-2539759025526907742010-09-16T21:18:57.513-05:002010-09-16T21:18:57.513-05:00Hey Ashley! Jake didn't get to see her for a day or two since he comes home from work later than that. But it was worth it to get 12 hrs of sleep!!

Next we put her in the bed and walked out of the room. We said I wouldn't go back in there until AT LEAST 4 hrs from the last feeding, and that was ONLY for a diaper change and feeding. And we stuck to it. She cried off and on that first night but finally got the picture and slept. And slept. And slept. She slept through 2 feedings and I had to wake her up at 7am!

The next part is napping. Babies this age shouldn't be awake for more than 2 hours at a time during the day. If Addie wakes up at 7 she goes down for a nap at 9 (if not earlier if she needs to). Naps are considered naps only if she's asleep for at least 1 hr. If she wakes up before then, she stays in the crib until that 1 hr mark. Right now she's taking 3 naps a day. Around 9, around 1, and around 4. Then to bed around 6:30. Earlier if she didn't nap well.

I found out that when a baby is well rested she sleeps better and longer. Sleep begets sleep. Its true, just not logical! Addie's sleep issues were nothing more than over-exhaustion. She was too tired to sleep well and woke up every 45 min-2hrs. All. Night. Long.

If you have the time you should check out the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. Totally worth your time and it works. And for us it worked quickly, which was important for us. The biggest thing is consistency. Be firm and allow her to learn to sleep. Even if she protests (and she will), the best thing is to put her in the crib and let her fuss it out a bit. Addie at the most only cried 20 minutes.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!!Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-85185921528834616232010-09-13T09:13:25.497-05:002010-09-13T09:13:25.497-05:00Hey Ashley! For the past 3 nights Addie has been sleeping almost 12 hours, with only one little crying session at the start of the night. HUGE improvments for us!! Hope you've been able to get some sleep! Let me know how its going!Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-7464260916239908562010-09-12T11:58:23.315-05:002010-09-12T11:58:23.315-05:00Those top teeth bothered Maddy for months! It bothers her sleep so much. I hope she feels more like herself soon.Just Another Motherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01801096760408728062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-1143453900246628022010-09-10T11:09:46.566-05:002010-09-10T11:09:46.566-05:00I'm thinking teething, she sounds just like Co...I'm thinking teething, she sounds just like Colin did, he even got at 101 fever. Just keep and eye on her and if her fever spikes above 101 or if she is crying and pulling her eye then take her in...good luck, i know how bad you want your normal happy girl back!Krisyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07893007044370135619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-45272554183638355932010-09-10T07:00:42.272-05:002010-09-10T07:00:42.272-05:00It could be her teeth. But, with little ones its really hard to know. It could be her ears. I don't think it would hurt to have them checked just to make sure.Melodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17772064963963096358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-66937283339958440702010-09-10T06:45:37.991-05:002010-09-10T06:45:37.991-05:00I'm sorry. If there aren't any other symptoms I wouldn't head off to the doctor--I've learned that often you come home with something much worse than you went in with, since there are so many sick children there. I hope everyone is feeling better soon.Kristyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13088448470042303043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-7874711393785431922010-09-10T06:13:00.678-05:002010-09-10T06:13:00.678-05:00I hear ya! I'm reading a book now called "Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. Very informative and I can't wait to finish the book and put into practice everything he's talking about. My friend has twin boys the same age as Addie and she was up all hours of the night with either one or both of them until she read and followed the book. She's had great success with it and I'm hoping I will too! You might want to check out the book too!

Hoping we BOTH get some sleep soon!!Melindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00510559602584934873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686857143203379501.post-85733065181584409192010-09-09T21:09:33.582-05:002010-09-09T21:09:33.582-05:00The second set was WAY WAY WORSE. The second ones took forever, he slept and ate awful for a few weeks. He got a pretty significant fever for about 36 hours too. He was just off for awhile. We went to the doctors when he spiked the fever and we were just told to use orajel and tylenol. He had a runny nose and a little bit of a rash too.

Good luck! I hope she feels better soon... and it's almost the weekend!Stacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06675197616280434252noreply@blogger.com
